Local associations make collective bargaining progress

Since 2007, when the Missouri Supreme Court confirmed in its ruling of Independence NEA vs. Independence School District that public employees, including teachers and education support professionals, have a constitutional right to bargain collectively, MNEA locals have been organizing to become recognized collective bargaining units in their school districts. Two more local associations made strides Nov. 11. Winfield NEA won their exclusive representation election with 93 percent of the vote and will now prepare to bargain its first contract. Metropolitan Community College concluded negotiations, achieving its first collective bargained agreement.

Congratulations to members in Winfield and MCC for achieving your goals.
